Neurological diseases are diseases which affect some part of the human nervous system, which is one of the systems the body uses to process information, initiate action and maintain homeostasis, or balance.
The concept of balance is central to the way in which Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approaches disorders affecting the nervous system. Whether it is the system in total which is malfunctioning, or whether it is just one localised part of that system.
From a TCM point of view, any neurological disorder represents a loss of equilibrium in the body (and mind) of the individual, and our treatment aims to identify where this imbalance is coming from and to gently help restore harmony and balance to the person as a whole. Thus rather than just focusing on the symptoms of the disease, we aim also to get to the root of the problem.

The Sean Barkes Clinic does not claim to cure any conventional medical disease states. Traditional Chinese Medicine seeks to re-establish and maintain the harmonious function of the human body-mind using tried and tested principles that have been discovered and matured over millennia. A Western medical diagnosis provides very little by way of insight in informing a Chinese Medical diagnosis. Patients usually recognise their own condition in terms of the medical disease category that they have been given by their GP or other conventional medical practitioner. The research presented here is merely an indication of the potential to draw parallels between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Western Medicine.
